Winter is known for its harsh temperatures and slick roadways that can leave drivers sliding into a snowbank. Fortunately there are simple measures that drivers can take that make all the difference during the season. Take the time to properly prepare your car this winter. Here are some tips to help you prepare your car for winter from us here at Jack Schmitt Chevrolet.
- Tires – Your tires are responsible for keeping you on the road and they can’t do their job without the proper amount of tread. Tread wear can be a major problem, especially during winter. Lack of tread means there’s a lack of traction and that isn’t good. Tires with low tread will slide more often than a new set of tires. Assess your tires and buy a new set if needed.
- Supplies – Make a supply kit before winter hits. Include a flashlight, clothes, gloves, blankets, sand or cat litter, as well as some preserved snacks, like jerky. Doing so ensures that you’ll be able to wait for help to arrive if needed.
- Oil – Fresh oil can make all the difference between an efficient engine and a struggling block of metal. Oil thickens during winter but new oil will thicken much less than old oil. Get an oil change performed to eliminate the worry that an inefficient engine brings to the road.
